Photography
Artist Statement.

Photography has always been the one type of art medium that I have worked with the longest.  For six years now I've been working at crafting my skills and learning new techniques.  I've always been inspired to photograph the beauty of nature that has been long forgotten.  As I began to increase my field of photography, I began to realize that beauty is everywhere, it's all around us, but we have long forgotten what it is like to stop and look.  My photographs aren't to show people what they have forgotten to see, it's what they have forgotten to acknowledge and to have them go out and absorb the world differently.

Mainly I have worked with macro photography, working with a lens that can help take in details that are normally lost with just a plain SLR camera.  After that, I have moved to using a telephoto lens and working with the white balance to get that perfect balance of color and subject.  Flowers were always the first thing I worked with.  Mainly I photographed them because they were everywhere, growing in different seasons, but I also photograph them because they stay still.  Besides the wind blowing them around every now and then, I never had a problem with photographing flowers.  People, on the other hand, never stay still long enough.  They like to fidget, move, and it's been hard to photograph a person who thinks that it's funny to make sure they are blurry within the picture.  Once I got comfortable with this fact, I also got comfortable with taking sports pictures.  Those people are moving around too fast to even notice that they are being photographed, and in the end, most of them appreciate that they had been photographed, sometimes even wanting a copy for themselves.

My work now contains more flowers, more nature, but I'm also working on getting photographs of objects that move fast; hummingbirds, people, birds, horses.  I'm also working on my way to take photographs at night.  Most cameras do not absorb the little light that is able to be used at night, and the flash never helps.  I want to take photographs of the stars, of lightning, of the moon in different phases.  But with my current camera and current lenses, that will not work.  I will need to find ways to adept, to change, and maybe one day get the chance to photograph the stars.  I am working hard to keep my camera at my side and to photograph nature every chance I get, because the one day that I may wait, maybe be one day too late.
